Reflecting on My Adventures in Creative Writing

Hey everyone! Welcome to Photog with a Blog, where I talk about all things photography!

Over the Spring 2025 semester at Minot State University, I had the task of working on my blog and publishing new posts every week. This experience helped shape my brand into what it is now and allowed me to grow my content creation skills.

Photog with a Blog

I've always got my cameras with me wherever I go

Although Photog with a Blog was the result of a semester-long project, I fully plan on continuing this blog, just not at the rate I have previously been posting. For my loyal readers who may be disappointed with this news, just know that my goal is to upload new posts at least once a month, and I will be exploring new forms of content creation, like YouTube videos and Instagram Reels. With my summer being more available and open, plans for expanding my photography work and content creation will be coming soon.

Writing for Photog with a Blog not only allowed me to grow my writing skills, but it also pushed me to learn even more about photography, more than I already knew. I learned how to develop color film this semester, and I developed that blog post while I was in the process of learning. Or when I traveled to New York, I kept tabs on places I went and visited, intending to share those on my blog. Even writing my first post, Basketball Photography for Beginners, I had to think about how I photographed sports and write about it in a way that a beginner would understand, forcing me to think critically about the process that I was talking about. This furthered my knowledge on the subject.

I've never shared this photo till now, it's color film I developed from my New York trip

Had it not been for my COMM 224 class, which forced me to create new blog posts every week, I probably would not have a blog to begin with. I had no interest in creating one. I liked the idea of video content creation, but not writing. I think the last 7 blog posts that I’ve created, especially the ones where I talked specifically about my art or exploration, changed my view on blogs, and I will continue to post new content. I still have many stories to share, updates on work that I’ve created, and tutorials to teach. Although this is the end of the semester, this is not the end of Photog with a Blog.

How to Disappear

This was part of a project I recently finished from my graphic design class, I keep busy

Like I mentioned earlier, the COMM 224 class not only made me write blog posts, but it also grew my brand image. Over the winter break, I developed this website to promote my photography business, but it didn’t have a consistent brand image or About Me section that made sense. I’m happy to say that I’ve made significant changes since then for my website and brand to have a clear identity. It also looks much more organized now than it did 4 months ago!

Conclusion

Photog with a Blog is here to stay with the monthly posting schedule from now on. If I decide to post more than once a month, consider it a special surprise from me :)

I encourage you to check out my Abandoned Dakota series on YouTube; the first episode on Balfour will be coming soon. If you would like to learn more about the Abandoned Dakota series, you can check out my Balfour post here.

Also, check me out on Instagram, my goal is to start sharing reels over there as well. With a more open and free summer before I start my final year of school, I will have time to go out and make fresh and exciting content.

What are some ideas you would like to see for future Photog with a Blog posts? Let me know!

I'm Sadie Lynn and thank you for reading this edition of Photog with a Blog. Until next time, bye guys!
